By Gordon Norman

Suitable age: 8 and above

Written by Gordon Korman, this novel concerns Cooper Vega, a young man who is always on the move and is disregarded by everyone except Jolie, whom Cooper has a crush on. Unfortunately, Cooper’s biggest bully has been cast as Romeo in the school play and will be working very closely with Jolie who acts as Juliet. Just as all hope seem lost, Cooper discovers a ghost from Shakespearian times haunting his phone who gives him hilarious and occasionally useful advice. This novel is outrageously funny and is written with Korman’s signature wit and humour. It also has all the principles of a hero story, a likeable main character, a mentor (the ghost), a love interest (Jolie), and an enemy (the bully). It is also impossible to put down as this book has a simple and humorous yet gripping plot. Sadly, the tragedy in this book is hard to relate to because the narrater of the tragic dialogue speaks rather optimistically and the tone strange for such a serious event.

Recommended for light readers and comedic loving fans, this book is outright chucklesome and is the perfect example of a children’s book.
