"From the outset the genre was quickly established and the epic tone set. I enjoyed the first person narration very much and was quickly involved with the character of James and with his personality.

It was a gripping story with vivid descriptions of each of the kingdoms and of the battle scenes.

Also a dizzying collection of characters was created during the epic quest and I can see the potential for visiting many of them in future books.

The sustained narrative through a complex maze of events and situations was very accomplished.

I particularly enjoyed the mixture of the heroic and the comic with some good slapstick scenes. James' vanity was really amusing too, his obsession with his moustache a reallyfunny touch.
