By Delilah S. Dawson

Suitable age: 10 and above

Written by Delilah S. Dawson, Phasma concerns Cardinal, a stormtrooper holding a bitter grudge against the notorious Captain Phasma, interrogating a resistance spy that has information vital to the downfall of his rival. The resistance spy narrates the origin of Captain Phasma. First a respected warrior of the Scyre, a tribe in a ruined world. Then Brendol Hux crash lands on to the island, beginning Phasma’s epic journey to the formidable commander of the First Order. It was quite hard to believe that a barbaric tribal warrior with no experience connected to guns can turn into a powerful military conquerer who has mastered modern weaponry and technology. The plot is not very interesting and Dawson does not focus on the character structure behind the minor characters such as Keldo and the stormtroopers. After reading this origin novel, I want to know more about Cardinal. This book only mentions that he started off as a regular stormtrooper who has climbed up the ranks of the First Order and is a firm believer in its ideals. A Cardinal backstory novel would be very interesting. This book is surprisingly good for a Star Wars novel. The origin of Phasma was not what I had expected and is highly recommended for Star Wars fans hoping to satisfy their curiosity.
