Suitable age: 8 and above

Written by Jasper Fforde, this novel’s main protagonist is a fifteen year old foundling, Jennifer Strange, who runs Kazam Mystical Arts Management. In the past, magic could manipulate weather and levitate islands. Now, magic is a powerful force no more, even the most powerful wizards can barely clean your drain. Suddenly, people begin foreseeing the death of the last dragon at the hands of a anonymous dragonslayer. If these visions are fact, an event will happen, so powerful and so influential it will boost magic to the point where gold will replace lead; Big Magic. The beginning of the plot is dull although the middle and the end is rather interesting. Humorous and witty. Sadly, I did not enjoy Jennifer’s meeting with the former dragonslayer because he immediately dies after Jennifer completes her training. I think Fforde could have elaborated more on that scene and reduced the pace of the chapter. Also, more character structure for the former dragonslayer would have been enjoyable.

I wonder if there is a spell for writing book reviews so I have more time to read! 🤔 Thank god I don’t have much homework today. I will read now. Bye!
